Movement Disorders

We can improve symptoms, motor function, and your quality of life.

We treat those with a spectrum of movement disorders and abnormalities in muscle tone and motor control. These include, but are not limited to the following hyperkinetic, neurodegenerative, and neurodevelopmental disorders:

  • ADHD
  • Dystonia
  • Gait disorders
  • Myoclonus
  • Parkinson’s
  • Stereotypies
  • Tics
  • Tremors

While we cannot cure diseases such as Parkinson’s, we can improve symptoms, motor function, and your quality of life. Each person is unique so we perform extensive neurologic testing and laboratory workups, if necessary, to be able to tailor our treatment to each person’s individual needs.

Our Approach

Our comprehensive neurologic examination focuses on finding which pathways in the brain are viable and  may be improved using neuroplasticity principles. We then create rehabilitation strategies to strengthen those pathways for maximum functional improvement.

Improving Function

Surgical and pharmacological intervention can be highly intrusive and may have severe side effects, but are often not even available. All too often, we see patients who have been told they are as good as they are going to get and that they just have to live with it. While neuroscientists continue to explore the unique pathways of movement disorders, studies have shown that direct electrical stimulation of the brain can improve motor function. The good news is, functional neurologists are able to use less intrusive ways to stimulate those areas of the brain.

Using these safe and non-invasive techniques, we have seen dramatic improvements in:

  • Gait
  • Pain
  • Movement
  • Coordination
  • Stiffness
  • Tremor
